Police say an Edmonton man wanted on a Canada-wide warrant was arrested near a casino in Enoch in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Authorities say Edmonton police dogs were instrumental in locating and arresting the 61-year-old man outside the River Cree Casino.

The suspect was injured by a police dog during the arrest, police say. He was later medically cleared in hospital.

Enoch RCMP say officers were called to the casino after a woman reported being assaulted by a man who she knew. Police arrived after the suspect had already fled on foot, which led to the police dog track.

George Monias, who was wanted for a parole violation, was charged with assault with a weapon, theft under $5,000 and possession of methamphetamine. He is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday in Stony Plain.
