A longstanding Sherwood Park grocery store is set to close this spring.
Safeway has confirmed it will be closing its Wye Road location at 985 Fir Street in Sherwood Park on March 30, 2025.
The grocery store has been a fixture in the area for decades. Along with fresh produce, meats, pantry goods, and household essentials, Safeway Wye Road is home to a pharmacy, sushi counter, bakery, and floral department.
A spokesperson for Safeway told Dished that the store would be closing in March, adding that the decision had been “not taken lightly” and that many factors were considered.
“We are committed to evolving and strengthening our business in this highly competitive grocery market while adapting to the growing needs of our communities,” they added.
“We greatly appreciate the community’s patronage and encourage them to continue shopping with us at the nearby Safeway Sherwood Park Mall Safeway at 2020 Sherwood Drive.”
It isn’t known yet what is in store for the Safeway space, but it certainly is the end of an era for those in Sherwood Park.
