Dangerous person sought after father, daughter found dead in NW Calgary double homicide

A Dangerous Person Alert is in effect after a father and daughter were found dead in two different northwest Calgary locations Sunday in what police are calling a domestic double homicide.

The alert issued through the Alberta Emergency Alert system just after noon Monday says a man with a firearm is in the areas of northwest Calgary and Bearspaw.

Police say the suspect is 38-year-old Benedict Kaminiski, and describe him as being six-feet tall, with brown and grey hair, and wearing a grey, red and white shirt.

Officers are also looking for a black Nissan Pathfinder with an Alberta licence plate CLN 5276, which they believe Kaminiski is driving.

Police are asking residents in the communities of Bearspaw, Rocky Ridge, Tuscany and surrounding areas to “be alert.”

“Do not open the door to strangers,” the alert reads. “Do not post details of police operations to social media.”

However, police inspector Lee Wayne told reporters the information police provided to issue the alert was where they last spotted him in the last 24 hours.

Furthermore, Wayne wouldn’t disclose where they believe he is currently because it could compromise the investigation.

“We don’t want anybody to interact with this individual if they get to see or if they see the vehicle, if they see him in public, we’re asking them to contact their local law enforcement in their area,” he said.

He did reveal the investigation led police to believe Kaminski has access to firearms, he wasn’t known to police prior, and he had no previous convictions.

Wayne wouldn’t share details about the victims and any family dynamics.

“We’re stronger together as far as utilizing the public to help us in this investigation,” Wayne said.

Police ask anyone with information about the whereabouts of Kaminiski to call them at 403-266-1234 or leave a tip anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

The second victim, a woman in her 30s, was found further west on the 300 block of Tuscany Ridge Heights just under two hours later at 11:15 p.m.

Police believe the woman is the man’s daughter, and that the incident is both targeted and domestic. They also say there are no threats to the public.

No arrests have been made.

Wayne says police heard additional concerns raised by family members, prompting them to go to the home in Tuscany.

The vehicle, investigators say, is believed to belong to the woman’s spouse. No further information has been provided.

Autopsies for the two deceased are scheduled for Jan. 3.
