Skilled trades worker who believes in “doing good for others” wins $1 million lotto prize

Brian Moore says a spur-of-the-moment decision led to his huge lottery win.

The skilled trades worker from Guelph, Ontario, has been a regular lotto player for years. He usually plays 6/49 but recently picked up a Millionaire Multiplier ticket on a whim.

Turns out he made the right choice because he ended up winning the $1 million jackpot.

“I was at home, playing my ticket before I left for work. I checked it on the OLG app and immediately saw the ‘Big Winner’ message on the screen,” he explained in a news release.

“Astonishment washed over me. It was an amazing moment.”

The first person Moore wanted to tell was his wife, who was asleep at the time, so he had to wake her up.

“She was so calm as I told her the news,” said Moore, adding that she double-checked his ticket on her phone just to be sure. “We then celebrated with a big hug and kiss.”

The trades worker said he is grateful this win “came [his] way.”

“I believe in doing good for others, and I’ve always wondered if it would come back to me. It’s like they say, ‘What goes around, comes around.’ Maybe it does,” he explained.

Moore plans to use his winnings to treat his wife to a nice vacation and take a break from work.

“I want to explore Europe, have some wonderful adventures, and make memories together,” he stated.

His winning ticket was purchased at Little Short Stop on Willow Road in Guelph.
