Friendships are built in many different ways. Some people share a passion for the outdoors, while others share hobbies or live in the same neighbourhood.
Wai Hing Yuen and Tang Mei Deng of Vancouver, BC now have a friendship that is strengthened by the bond of winning $1 million from the December 11, 2024, Lotto 6/49 draw.
The duo were together at a mall in the City of Delta when they decided to check their ticket.
“We checked the ticket on a self-checker at Tsawwassen Mills,” Yuen said of the moment he learned they won big. “I didn’t believe it and thought, ‘This is a lot of zeros.’ I made Tang Mei check it, too.”
Yuen and Deng selected their own numbers and bought the winning ticket at a lotto kiosk at Champlain Square on Kerr Street in Vancouver.
Deng added that he was most excited to share the good news with her daughter, while Yuen said he hadn’t told anyone yet at the time of the prize claim.
The pair does have plans for how they want to celebrate their winnings. Yuen plans to visit Hong Kong, and Deng looks forward to going on a cruise with friends.
When asked how it feels to win $1 million, Deng had just one word to describe the feeling: “Unbelievable!”
