An Alberta family physician is facing sanctions after a hearing tribunal revealed unprofessional conduct.
Dr. Gina Arps was suspended from practice for nine months by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA), with six months already served.
It’s alleged Arps performed “invasive and sensitive procedures and examinations” between 2021 and 2022, which was in violation of restrictions placed on her practice permit in 2017.
She also allegedly provided injections to patients at a location that was not an Alberta Health Services (AHS) facility.
The CPSA hearing tribunal also alleges Arps “failed to comply with minimally acceptable infection prevention and control requirements, and was not candid with CPSA and AHS investigators who visited her clinic.”
The CPSA says Arps admitted to the allegations, and the tribunal accepted a joint submission on sanction. Arps is responsible for half of the costs of the investigation and hearing (maximum of $15,000).
The physician is listed as a staff member on the website of Edmonton’s Zia Medical and Women’s Health. A biography for Arps on that same website indicates she practised medicine in Westlock from 2004 to 2023.
