The wait is finally over for Edmontonians, with the city’s first Krispy Kreme location officially opening its doors on December 10.
In fact, people in the city were so excited about the launch at 4614 Gateway Boulevard NW that some were even in line as early as 5:30 pm on December 9, over 12 hours before the outpost was set to open.
Krispy Kreme, which is most well-known for its signature Original Glazed treats, opened its doors to the public at 7 am and welcomed those who had braved the elements for hours.
One Reddit user, bullfu, shared a photo of the line from the opening with dozens of people bundled up and waiting patiently in the cold to get their first taste of one of Krispy Kreme’s creations.
According to the brand, the first 12 people in line for the new outpost received a Golden Ticket, which can be redeemed for a free dozen glazed donuts every month for a year.
The first person in line was also able to turn on the location’s enormous “Hot Now” light, which signals when fresh donuts are being made.
Krispy Kreme’s 4,600-square-foot store in Edmonton features one of its signature Doughnut Theatres, where guests can watch the donut-making process and even try a hot one straight off the line.
If you’re still keen to check out Edmonton’s new Krispy Kreme on opening day, the outpost will be giving out a free Original Glazed donut to guests all day long.
For those who don’t fancy braving the long lines, Krispy Kreme will be open every day from 7 am to 10 pm.
