Fill up ASAP: Double-digit gas price hike in store for Alberta

If you’re a driver in Alberta, you’ll want to fill your gas tank sooner rather than later, as prices are predicted to hike dramatically on Tuesday.

According to the gas forecasting site Gas Wizard, both of Alberta’s major cities are in for a massive increase, with Calgary potentially looking at a double-digit price hike.

In Edmonton, regular gasoline is due for a nine-cent increase, rising to $1.36 per litre on Tuesday. Premium will rise by seven cents, up to $1.64 per litre.

The price of diesel in YEG will remain at $1.52 per litre on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, in Calgary, prices are going up across the board, with regular and premium gasoline seeing a 12-cent increase on Tuesday. Regular will increase to $1.46 per litre while premium will rise to $1.74.

Diesel in Calgary is also forecast to increase by four cents, rising to $1.59 per litre.

Gas Wizard says that prices are determined by several factors, including the price of crude oil, distribution and marketing costs, taxes, and costs associated with refining crude oil.
