Edmonton transit riders will soon enjoy uninterrupted cellphone coverage while underground as the City works to improve connectivity and safety on public transit.
According to Jesse Isaac, director of technical services at Edmonton Transit Service, work is underway to provide cell coverage across LRT tunnels and underground stations.
Current plans include a 2025 pilot project that will serve as a testing ground before a full rollout. According to a quarterly update to the City Council, teams recently completed preliminary signal and systems testing in the tunnels.
The City is currently exploring partnership opportunities with multiple national cellular service providers.
